My Skin, My SKIN….It’s so DRY!!

It’s that time of the year again, cold and windy outside, warm and dry inside…Your poor skin!!  It’s dry, cracked, red and flaky…Oh my!!   Our skin is the largest organ, it represents what is going on with our bodies, we need to recognize and appreciate what it is saying to us.  In Chinese Medicine, we use a face map to help us diagnose the root issues and we use our tools (think acupuncture, cupping, teas) to help the body maintain BALANCE.  We also dig deeper into our tool kit when it comes to simple topical solutions for your face.  I will always recommend natural/easy solutions to fix the ‘branch’ issue and for the deeper rooted issues you’ll need to come visit us!

Making your own skin care products can be fun, it allows you to know exactly what is going on the skin, they are not complicated and they are very effective!  Everything is easily found at your local health food shop or grocery store.

Here’s a great solution for your dry skin:

GREEN TEA TONER

Toners are great to help balance the pH level of the skin and they also help to remove any traces of dirt left on the skin.  Here you will find I am using an essential oil to help nourish and balance the skin.

1 Teaspoon dried peppermint leaves

4 Teaspoons green tea leaves

4 Ounces distilled Water

2 Drops Lavender Oil (lavandula vera)

2 Teaspoons Aloe Vera Gel

In a small pan, bring the distilled water to a boil.  Add all the herbs and lavender oil, and let steep for 10 minutes.  Get a 4-ounce spray bottle (found at the Dollar store or Whole Foods, your choice) and pour the Aloe Vera gel into it.  Then fill the remaining space up with the herbal concoction.  Spritz face liberally!  Keep refrigerated for an added soothing benefit
